Crash victim en route to London hospital

A Mississauga woman who has been in a coma since a car crashed into a scooter she was riding in Africa will be flown to London, England today for treatment.
Family members said Foreign Affairs officials contacted the parents of Mississauga's Michelle Senayah, 23, on the weekend to say they have worked out the details and expect to have her on a flight to London today.
Senayah suffered a fractured skull, swelling and bleeding of the brain in the crash that took place in  Lome, Togo. Her family originally wanted to move her to a hospital in Canada, but doctors said the flight is too long.
A medical assistance company wanted a $200,000 deposit for treatment costs and the Togo government demanded 24 hours notice to land the private medevac flight hired by the family.
Senayah's parents, Elizabeth and Ian Smith of Mississauga, have already paid $100,000 to Healix International for the private air ambulance.
As well, because of Senayah's condition, the flight must travel at a lower altitude to avoid a change in air pressure.
Senayah and her husband, Jonas Senayah, 24, were driving on a scooter in the African city when a car suddenly drove into them. Michelle was taken to hospital in a taxi. Jonas suffered a broken leg.
Senayah, an architecture student at the University of Waterloo, was in Africa to help design schools. She met her husband while working in Lome.
