College basketball coach records win No. 400

Jim Flack. Mississauga’s Jim Flack recently celebrated his 400th career victory as head coach of the Sheridan Bruins.

Mississauga’s Jim Flack celebrated his 400th career victory as head coach of the Sheridan Bruins by doing what he does best — winning basketball games.
After his Bruins knocked off the St. Clair College Saints 90-76 on Friday to mark his 400th victory as the Sheridan coach, he wasted little time in guiding his team to an 87-57 win over the Lambton College Lions the next day.
With the win, the Bruins improved their record to 5-1 in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association play, and 15-2 overall.
“What this accomplishment points to is the excellence of the athletes that I’ve had the fortune of coaching,” Flack said after his 400th win. “It’s a very important milestone to me and I’m very proud of it, but it’s indicative of the players and coaches that I’ve been associated with more than anything.”
Flack, who began his coaching career as an assistant to former Bruins bench boss Wayne Allison in 1990, became the head coach of the team in 1993 after spending one season as the head coach at Seneca. During his career, he has compiled a 401-140 record while winning four Ontario championships and four national medals.
The Streetsville Secondary School graduate has been named the OCAA coach of the year four times and was named the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) national coach of the year during the 2001-02 season.
Shane Reece, a graduate of St. Joseph Secondary School, is one of two Mississaugans on the team. He scored seven points and grabbed four rebounds in Saturday’s win.
The other Mississaugan on the squad is guard Fabian Webb.
