Trustees vow to keep all-girls' school running

Without knowing where students will be housed or how they'll get there, Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board trustees committed tonight to keeping a Holy Name of Mary all-girls' secondary school open.
With only one trustee's dissent, a motion passed at tonight's committee meeting that stated the Board will continue to offer an all-girls' high school.
Last Thursday, the Felician Sisters, who own the land and the building at the current Mississauga Rd. site of Holy Name of Mary Secondary School, announced they would turn the school into a private facility starting in September 2008.
The Board has been leasing the site for decades.
Tuition at the new private school will be $14,000 per year and it will be set up in partnership with Toronto's St. Michael's College, an all-boys' private school.
The motion to keep an all-girls' school open in Dufferin-Peel still must pass at the Board level. The next Board meeting is June 12.
