Suspected 'Covered Girl' bandit back in court
A 38-year-old woman accused of being the "Covered Girl Bandit" will appear in court tomorrow.
Christine Bartlett remains in custody after being denied bail last month. Details of the bail hearing are under a publication ban.
Peel Regional Police say a woman who they dubbed the "Covered Girl Bandit" because she bundled up in winter garb while robbing numerous banks, was responsible for 11 bank heists, including nine in Mississauga, since last November. The other two were committed in Oakville.
The bandit's crime spree netted close to $30,000, according to police sources. She robbed the same Burnhamthorpe Rd. TD Canada Trust on two occasions, police said.
In each incident, the woman approached a teller, produced a handwritten note and a plastic bag while making a demand for money. At each bank, she was given an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing on foot.
Bartlett, of no fixed address, was arrested March 31 at a homeless shelter in the GTA.
She's charged with 11 counts of robbery.
