The Peel District School Board will kick off its annual United Way fundraising campaign tomorrow with a target of $310,0000, a $10,000 increase over what it achieved last year.
“United Way helps tens of thousands of people in Peel each year and many of these people are families of Peel board students,” says Jim Grieve, director of education. “Supporting the United Way is one way we can reinforce our overall goal of student success. Many United Way agencies directly support students and learning—we want our students to achieve to the best of their ability, and United Way helps make that possible.”
The Peel Board’s campaign theme this year is “United Way: Be a Hero.”
“There is a way that we can all be heroes together, and that’s through the United Way,” says Janet McDougald, chair of the board and trustee for Mississauga Wards 1 and 7. “We know that when we work together we can come up with the best solutions for our community. When we give to the United Way, children and youth are nurtured and encouraged.”
Hundreds of school board employees will gather at the board’s Mississauga head office at Hurontario St. and Matheson Blvd. tomorrow at 4 p.m. The kickoff celebration includes a silent auction and a chance to win prizes donated by numerous local merchants and corporations.
