It was a good day for the Arnprior Unity Run Oct. 27 and Phil Knapp especially.
The Arnprior runner was the top finisher in the five-kilometer run with a time of 17:43.5 in the event that raises funds for Community Living Renfrew County South.
The Unity Run’s combined five events drew 185 runners and walkers. The day featured 10- five- and three- kilometre runs, plus leisurely walks of five and three kilometres.
10-K Run
The 10-kilometre run drew 54 runners, 29 women and 25 men, with Gatineau’s Mark Schindel, winning the event in about 35.43.2, well above the average time of 56.39.9.
David Parsons of Arnprior was second at 36.12.1, Thomas McGregor of Renfrew third, Graham Spaull of White Lake fourth and Jesse Knockleby or Arnprior fifth.
Other Arnprior runners finishing in the top 20 were Mike Poirier, Tony Veale, Jack Galley, Emma Baird, Hailey Wheeler, Nancy Baker, and Jack Payer.
Jason Green of Kinburn was sixth, Burnstown’s Mark Wroe ninth and McNab-Braeside’s Tyler Duffy 17th.
5-K run
There were 80 participants, 25 men and 55 women, in the 5-k run, with the average time being 33.03.63.
Knapp was closely followed by Eric Nielsen of Arnprior, who finished at 17:46.0.
Renfrew’s Tyson Johnston reached the finish in third place with a time of 23:25.2.
Laura Stellato of Arnprior was the top finishing woman, in fourth. Other top Arnprior finishers were Sarah Antonakos in sixth, Paul Sly in seventh, Sebastian Donis in eighth, Andrew Bradley in ninth and Peter Dodge in 10th.
Other local top-20 finishers were Corey Young, Sudesh McEwen, Vince Cozzi and Ken Farrell of Arnprior; Rick Gwalchmai of Braeside; and Emily Waterston, Meagan Dyer and Mary Lou Spaull of White Lake.
3-K run
The 3-k run had 13 participants and was won by Kaitlin Wheeler of Arnprior in 15:49.4.
Arnprior’s Michelle Wheeler was a close second at 15:56.4.
Carson Moran of Renfrew finished third in 16:17.9, with Arnpriorites Jeffrey Birmingham fourth, Amelia Veale sixth, William Veale seventh, William Wallace eighth, Kate Glynn ninth and Noah Wallace 10th.
5-K walk
Trina Senior of Arnprior walked away with race in the 5-k walk, which had 22 participants.
Arnprior walkers took the top five spots, with Senior, who finished at 35.56.3, being followed by Penny Stashick, Patty Wall, Lisa Rouleau and Judy Pierce. Other top Arnpriorites were Chris and Kevin Ledgerwood and Marcelle and Ralph Chown.
3-K walk
There were 16 participants in a 3-k walk, won by Jo-Anne Caldwell of Haley Station in a time of 24:22.4.
Lauren Reid of Arnprior was second and David Reid third.
They were followed by two Braeside walkers, Joe Zamouski and Kaila Bowen, with Martin Gosling of Burnstown sixth.
Lily Pilon of Arnprior was seventh, followed by Elise and Christina Veale, both of Arnprior. ‘Uncle’ Dan Lynch was 12th.
