“She brings the pain!” said coach Chris Spratt.
Almonte and District High School’s (ADHS) Athlete of the Month, Taya O’Connor is a power hitter on the school’s senior girls volleyball team – it is her first year on the team.
“I think it speaks volumes about Taya as an athlete,” said Spratt.
He added she is a team leader.
“I get it (competitiveness) from my parents,” said O’Connor. “I come from an athletic family.”
Two sisters – one older, one younger – also attend ADHS.
In addition to volleyball, the Grade 11 student is involved in cross-country and track and field (hurdles and pole vault).
“During the summer, I play soccer for Mississippi United, and we live in Pakenham so I ski a lot,” said O’Connor.
Although returning to ADHS next year for Grade 12, the 16-year-old hopes to study criminology at university – and, of course, play sports.
When not on the court or track, O’Connor can be found working at Curves Almonte.
