On a night when most North Americans watched Barack Obama win a second term as U.S. president, Liberal party faithful gathered to hear Justin Trudeau’s pitch for why he should take over the job once held by his father.
About 200 Carleton-Mississippi Mills Liberals, along with high profile MPs such as Hedy Fry and Scott Sims, gather for dinner and to stock the campaign war chest at Irish Hills Golf and Country Club on Nov. 6.
Senator Jim Munson introduced Trudeau, 41, by saying the ground game will be crucial if the Liberals want to improve on their third place finish after the last election.
“You folks matter,” Munson said. “Justin gets that.”
Trudeau spoke extensively on the politics of “cynicism,” employing the word numerous times. Both the Conservatives and New Democrats focus on core supporters and regions, he said, because that is easier than trying to represent all Canadians.
“We need someone who’ll speak for all regions,” Trudeau said. “We are one country, not in spite of our differences, but because of it.”
