Sarah-Jane Stavenow has been located and is safely on her way back home from Los Angeles, CA.
The news comes as relief to her family and friends who have been working tirelessly to find her, as well as to countless individuals online who have been following and spreading the word about the woman’s disappearance.
The 26-year-old Arnprior native and mother of one left Ottawa airport on Friday, Nov. 16 and gave word that she had landed safely in LA. The family had been desperately trying to contact and locate Stavenow after she failed to contact family members following that initial message and missed her flight back home Tuesday. Stavenow was to contact fiancé Ryan Kearney after she had checked into her hotel, but that never happened. Since Friday, there had been no activity on her credit cards and her cell phone appeared to be turned off. Her Facebook account also saw no activity during the days she was missing.
Her mother, Suzanne Andrews-Sylvestre of Arnprior, made an impassioned post on Facebook Wednesday morning and told the Chronicle-Guide Thursday the family was very grateful for all the support. “Please express the gratitude of myself and my family for the out pour of love and assistance, thank you so much.”
A Facebook post Friday morning from Stavenow’s mother, Suzanne Andrews-Sylvestre, relayed the message to the countless people involved in the online effort to get the word out. “It is with great pleasure to tell all you incredible people that Sarah-Jane has been located. We are on our way to bring her home, she will need medical attention and the love of her friends and family,” Sylvestre wrote. “We will be contacting the media when she is home, mostly to thank each and every one of you, this would have not happened without the help of everyone on Facebook. You people made this happen and we cannot thank you enough. God bless you everyone.”
By Friday morning, more than 9,000 people belonged to the Facebook group Please Help Find Sarah Jane Stavenow. Stavenow grew up in Arnprior and lives in Ottawa with her fiancé and seven-year-old son.
Friday morning, Ottawa Police reported Stavenow had contacted family and would be returning home.
