Body found in submerged car

Ottawa Police dive team on scene

A dive team was back at the Quyon Ferry dock Sunday afternoon as police continue to investigate a vehicle that went through the icy waters of the Ottawa River.

Sunday afternoon Inspector Murray Knowles of the Ottawa Police told media a person was found inside the vehicle but weather conditions have hampered the recovery.

The identification of that body has not been made.

Ottawa Police have been investigating the incident since 61-year-old Donna Graves and her 29-year-old son Daron went missing Thursday night after a trip to Arnprior.

The Graves home is located steps away from the dock where police discovered vehicle tracks leading toward the water.

”As you can see, our marine dive trail unit is out preparing to do another dive in order to recover the vehicle that was discovered last evening off the pier,” Knowles said.

“Tragically, there is a person in the vehicle,” he said. “We haven’t identified that person at this point. The conditions, as you can see, make it very difficult for us to do a recovery at this point, but we are working toward it. Divers will be entering the water momentarily (1 p.m.) in order to videotape the debris trail and so forth so we can start our recovery.”
