New candidate emerges from Ramsay Ward

The former president of the Almonte branch of the Royal Canadian Legion is running for Mississippi Mills town council in the Ramsay Ward.

Paul Watters, who led Legion branch 240 for four years, filed his papers on Tuesday, June 29.

“I’m an individual that always likes to keep busy,” said Watters, who is currently president of the Clayton Community Hall. “I know a lot of the councillors and saw how they do things.”

One of the major issues he intends to address during his campaign is taxation.

“My taxes have gone up almost $100 a year in Clayton (over the past five years),” he said. “Fiscal responsibility is one of the major reasons why I’ve decided to jump into the political ring. I would like to see the taxes moving at a much lower rate.”
