MISSISSIPPI
MILLS – Almonte Ward Coun.Garry Dalgity has decided to run for
re-election to town council.
Except for a hiatus from 2003 to 2006, Dalgity has been on
Mississippi Mills town council since 1998, and was a member of the old Almonte
town council before then. In the coming campaign, he hopes to be able to play
this experience to his advantage.
“I believe that an experienced councillor would be an asset
to Almonte,” said Dalgity, who filed his paperwork on July 19. He made the
decision to continue on and offer up his experience after witnessing the number
of new candidates entering the race.
“I felt my experience would be an asset to a new council,”
said Dalgity, especially when it comes to issues like the waste water treatment
plant.
While he has been glad to see Mississippi Mills tapping in
to the unprecedented stimulus spending on offer from the federal government, he
feels that the time has come to rein in spending.
“I would encourage them (the new council) to pause before
taking on any new spending,” said Dalgity. While the stimulus money was a once-off
event, the debt it brought with it also means the town’s reserve fund has been depleted.
