MISSISSIPPI
MILLS – Almonte Ward councillor Alex Gillis will not be running for re-election
this fall.
Gillis announced his decision at the Mississippi Mills town
council meeting on Monday, Aug. 9.
“I’m not going to be running for council. I’ve been thinking
about this a lot,” said Gillis at the council table at the end of the meeting.
“(It’s) time to move on to other things.”
Gillis has served 12 years on Mississippi Mills town
council, and for six years previous to that on the old Almonte town council.
“It’s been an honour, I’ll tell you…(with) lots of fond
memories,” said Gillis. “All good things must end.”
He joked with Mayor Al Lunney that he would not be throwing
his hat into the ring for mayor.
“You weigh all the various factors and decide you’re not
running,” said Gillis, adding that he wanted to be able to spend more time with
his family. “Once you say it out loud, it becomes real,” he said of his
decision to announce his move at the council table.
