A beloved eastern Ontario
tradition continued last weekend as the University of Guelph
Kemptville Campus welcomed the public to the 82nd
annual Kemptville College Royal on March 11-12.
After starting the weekend with a Saturday morning pancake
breakfast hosted by the Kemptville College Foundation at the Agroforestry
Centre on Bedell Road., visitors enjoyed livestock shows and the Classic Calf
Sale at the A.M. Barr Arena. Students demonstrated their skill at guiding
cattle and sheep around the area.
Polo demonstrations, a clipping competition, and a celebrity
milking contest featuring North Grenville Mayor David Gordon and Councillor
Barb Tobin added to the fun.
Kids met colourful llamas at the petting zoo, and tried to
milk Maple the Cow. The Power and Equipment Games, featuring various student
demonstrations, and a hockey tournament at the North Grenville Municipal Centre
added to the excitement.
The Royal is a chance for Kemptville’s agricultural students
to showcase their work and share their expertise on food and nutrition, equine
dissection, and operating a greenhouse. The Farmer’s Olympics and Horse Show
Games provided added thrills for audiences young and old.
