Okay year for construction starts

Just over $6 million in new Horton construction

Horton Township construction experienced very modest growth in 2012. The total value of construction starts reached $6,814,00 with the help of 10 building permits and more than $1 million in construction starts in October.

There were 57 construction sites, with 19 new homes, 20 residential renovations and 18 projects involving garages or storage buildings.

There was little activity late in the year with no building starts in November, while December’s two permits were valued at a total of $75,000. The busiest months were June ($1,696,000), October ($1,086,000) and August $996,000). Horton’s total value of construction starts in 2011 was $6,191,000. That year, construction activity exceeded $1 million in March, August and September.

Horton’s record year was $11.4 million in 2010, when the new George Jackson Toyota headquarters on Garden of Eden Road accounted for about $4 million.
