PERTH - The date is set and the runners are already at the mark, so to speak.
The annual Perth Kilt Run will take place on Saturday, June 22 at 6 p.m. This year the run will feature a Wee Lads and Lassies Run for the young ones, as well as a new starting line parade.
Stewart Park will be utilized more than in years past and more of the routes will be within the downtown core. While there will still be free beer for everyone who finishes – so long as they are of age, of course – the organizational hub of the event will be moving from the Crystal Palace to Stewart Park to allow for more breathing room.
The scone baking competition is being changed to a shortbread baking competition, but the Canadian national haggis toss championships will return to Perth.
Registrations have doubled from the same time last year, with more than 700 runners signing up during the first 23 days of early-bird registration. CBC Television’s “The National” will also be doing filming of the kilt run for their “Only in Canada,” segment.
