(PETERBOROUGH) Facing a stage of 'Bears' is no easy task, but for an entrepreneur from Port Hope it was worth $20,000.
Jo Ann Baguioro-Thompson, founder and CEO of Tiburon Treats Inc., won the Bears' Lair competition at Showplace Peterborough on Tuesday (March 1) night. She was judged by six "Bears" including guest judge Robert Herjavec, acclaimed venture capitalist and one of the stars of the CBC television show the Dragons' Den.
Ms Baguioro-Thompson's company develops, manufactures and distributes all-natural premium dog biscuits. She received $20,000 worth of products and services to help her market and develop the business further.
Ms Baguioro-Thompson beat out three other finalists -- Brandi Hewson, of Haliburton, who presented her business WAI Products Ltd. that distributes and manufactures a range of water supply and irrigation products; Len and Anne Sedgwick, of the Peterborough area, who presented their business InnoZinc Ltd. and their picture screw invention; and John Walsh, of the City of Kawartha Lakes, who showed off his Enviroframe invention, picture frames made out of recycled styrofoam and disposable coffee cup lids.
Each of the finalists received a pass to the front of the line of the Dragons' Den audition in Toronto on April 1.
