Jr. Sens coach Ambroziak resigns

Only four months after being hired as general manager and head coach of the Ottawa Jr. Senators, Peter Ambroziak has resigned, according to the club.

Ambroziak notified the club just before the start of their training camp on Aug. 26, citing family reasons for his decision. The Jr. Senators start their season on Saturday, Sept. 10 against the Smiths Falls Bears at the Central Canada Hockey League fall showcase at the Kanata Recreation Centre.

When contacted following the announcement on Thursday, Sept. 8, team president Fred Crouch said while disappointed with the timing of the decision, there was no ill will between the club and Ambroziak.

“It says a great deal about him that he agreed to stay through training camp,” said Crouch, who was quick to highlight Ambroziak’s professionalism and integrity during the camp.

“We were fortunate to have him for the period of time we did,” he said. “He and his family will always have a home here with the hockey club.”

Crouch said several candidates have been identified to replace Ambroziak, who was hired in May following the resignation of Peter Howes, and a replacement will likely be announced early next week.

In the interim, head scout Darren Graff will take over the general manager’s duties, while assistant coach Martin Dagenais, who was head coach and GM of the Hawkesbury Hawks last season, will take over behind the bench.
