The Canadians earned two points the hard way Saturday with a
shoot-out win against Gloucester.
With a 3-3 tie after overtime the game went to a shootout,
but even that would prove difficult to settle. Ten shooters in total would try
their luck with Richard Stethem getting the game winner and only goal of the
shootout.
The Rangers were leading the game 2-0 when Stetham put the
Canadians on the board in the second period.
Carleton Place’s
Zach Rodier would score in the third period to tie the game. The Rangers took the
lead again with a goal with 12 minutes left on the game clock.
A Gloucester
slashing penalty gave Carleton
Place the advantage which helped Matt Thompson get
the tying goal.
In the shootout, Samuel Coyne, Robbie Lepine, Tyler
Kotlarz and Zach Rodier were all stopped
by Rangers’ goaltender Francis Dupuis. Scott Shackell stopped all five Ranger
shooters.
Cornwall
4, Canadians 3
Kotlarz got two goals and an assist in a Friday night 4-3 loss
to the Cornwall Colts.
Cornwall
was first to strike in the first period and led 2-0 by the time Kotlarz got the
Canadians on the scoreboard.
The Colts’ Kevin Cole would score his second of the night in
the final minute of the second period.
Kotlarz would bring the Canadians some hope with a goal
midway through the third and Stethem’s goal shortly afterwards would tie the
match at three.
Cornwall’s
Jacob Laliberte would get the game winner with about three minutes left in the
game.
Shackell was back between the pipes for Carleton Place, facing 35 shots on the
night and earning third-star honours. The Canadians had 21 shots.
