The Carleton Place Canadians recorded two dominate wins from their three games over the weekend.

The Canadians seem to have finally found their scoring legs with a 6-4 win in Hawkesbury and a 7-0 trouncing of Kanata.

Pembroke spoiled the weekend, downing the Canadians 6-1 Sunday night.

Carleton Place 6, Hawkesbury 4

On Friday the Hawks opened the scoring in the first, but it would be the Canadians who would light up the board in the second period with three unanswered goals.

The Hawks evened up the match with two of their own.

The Canadians’ power-play squad went to work late in the middle frame getting two goals, ending the period ahead 5-3.

Carleton Place’s Zach Allen got a short-handed goal, but the Hawks weren’t ready to roll over. They managed one more goal with about two minutes remaining, but it wasn’t enough and Carleton Place recorded the 6-4 win.

Carleton Place 7, Kanata 0

The next night the Canadians hosted the struggling Kanata Stallions.

The 7-0 blowout included a Samuel Coyne hat trick and a shutout for Scott Shackell who faced 23 shots.

Richard Stetham, Matt English, Aaron MacCosham and Robbie Lepine also contributed to the scoring spree.

Pembroke 6, Carleton Place 1

For their third game of the weekend, the Canadians faced the league-leading Lumber Kings in Pembroke.

The Lumber Kings were the first on the board with a short-handed goal about seven minutes into the game.

Pembroke went on to pepper Shackell with 47 shots on the night, taking the 6-1 win in front of 1,300 fans.

The Canadians were getting shots themselves, outshooting Pembroke 15-14 in the first period. They had 42 shots overall, with Tyler Kotlarz getting the lone Canadians’ marker at the mid-way point of the third period.

What’s next

The Canadians take on the Cumberland Grads Friday night at home and then host the Brockville Braves Tuesday.
