Cycling the Capital

Nearly three per cent of all Ottawans commuted to work using a bicycle in 2004, according to a study prepared by Market Opinion Research International.
The city's cycling plan aims to increase the number of trips taken by bike from 4,500 per day in 2001 to 12,000 in 2021. Ottawa was one of four Canadian municipalities awarded a silver designation in 2010 under the Bicycle Friendly Community Award Porgram, sponsored by the Bicycle Trade Association of Canada and Trek Canada. Metroland Media decided to check out just how bicycle-friendly Ottawa really is, testing routes and examining issues related to cycling in the capital.
