Children's Choir goes coastal

The Mississauga Children's Choir (MCC) is hitting the road.
The MCC's Concert Choir, made up of senior students, will be taking the Mississauga flag to Vancouver next Friday for the week-long Coastal Sound International Choral Festival, which runs until July 5.
The festival will showcase the voices of nearly 500 children and youth from as far away as Australia and Denmark.
Music Director Thomas Bell will lead the the MCC through a solo lunchtime concert at Port Moody City Hall and an evening concert in Maple Ridge.
The singers will also take part in a gala concert at the Chandos Pattison Auditorium in Surrey.
Every second year the choir travels to a competition.
In 2005, they visited England, and in 2003 they were in Newfoundland. Wherever they go, they take the flag of Mississauga with them.
They have a photo of the flag at England's Stonehenge, and one at Newfoundland's Signal Hill. This year, they will add a photo of the choir with the flag at Capilano Bridge.
The trip to British Columbia adds to great excitement in the choir this year. They have performed with the Mississauga Symphony, the Mississauga Choral Society, at the Mayor's Gala and at the Toronto Star Carol Service.
Members of the choir also learned they were runners-up at the Ontario Music Festival after winning at the Peel Music Festival earlier in the year.
The MCC is open to children ages 6-17.
