Stittsville concert band performs

Second annual Christmas concert

STITTSVILLE - “Joy to the World,” “Jingle Bells,” “Jolly Old Saint Nicholas” and “Deck the Halls” are all traditional favourite Christmas carols and all were heard at a retirement residence in Kanata thanks to the Stittsville concert band.

The band, which was formed in September 2008, delivered its second annual Christmas concert on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 13 at the new Eagleson Road retirement residence.

Since its formation, the band has played over ten concerts including functions for the Stittsville branch of the Royal Canadian Legion which recently became the major sponsor of the band.

The band, which is under the direction of Frank Martens and Karen Wiggins, is comprised of musicians of many different ages and backgrounds but all with a desire to play music in community settings. For instance, the band recently participated in the Christmas Parade of Lights in Stittsville.

Members of the Stittsville concert band are as follows: Piccolo/flute – Joy Delahunt, Daniel Fong, Effi Kramer, Crystal Payne, Jennifer Terzi and Catherine Townsend; Trumpet – Gary Graham, Sam Lo, Lindsay McWhinnie, Gary Payne, Don Peterkin, Christine Ritchie and Gene Sollows; Clarinets – Mary Martens, Frank Martens, Bob Thiel, Matt Ronan and Krista Schaefer; Alto saxophone – Christine Philipson and Monique Vail; Tenor saxophone – Paul Klazek; French horn – Sheila Sullivan and Karen Wiggins; Trombone – Don Purchase; Euphonium – Trevor Burn and Jim Underwood; Tuba – Ted Houghton; Electric bass – Bob Steadman; and Percussions – Chris Dixon, Luc Forget and Matt Brown.
