Neither cold nor winter will keep card players away

Euchre playing in Stittsville

STITTSVILLE - Euchre players are a hearty bunch.

Cold, wintry weather on Thursday evening, Jan. 28 did not deter euchre players from travelling to the Lions Hall in Stittsville for the regular Thursday evening euchre party hosted by the Stittsville District Lions Club.

Plenty of card players turned out, as nine tables of four-hand euchre were played.

Brenda Lee Lewis emerged in first place with 80 points. The runner-up spot was a three-way tie with 74 points each involving Rosemarie Baine, Lillian Baird and Bill Watson.

Sharon Cummings won the booby prize while Lois Aubrey had the hidden score.

Thea Both won the door prize, just like she did the week before.

The first 50/50 draw winner was Jean Howell while the second 50/50 prize winner was Joy Phillips.

The Thursday prior had an even better turnout, with 12 tables of four hand euchre played at the Lions Hall on Thursday, Jan. 21.

Harry Wolf finished in first place with 78 points, followed by Wade Mordey and Jackie Ralph, who tied for second with 74 points.

Sylvia Yates won the booby prize while Edna McKay had the hidden score.

Cleo Murray won the first 50/50 draw while the second 50/50 draw winner was Ann King.

The Stittsville District Lions Club is holding four-hand euchre parties every Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Lions Hall in Stittsville, cold weather or not. Everyone is most welcome to attend and enjoy an evening of fun and fellowship playing euchre.
